Life in Magazia

Magazia is Paxos away from the harbours. The village follows the old road through the middle of the island, with a bakery, a small market, a traditional kafeneio and a few tavernas where the day moves at island pace. Around it, settlements such as Platanos, Fountana and Anemogiannatika sit among olive trees that have been tended for generations.

From here the whole island is close. Head west through the olive groves to Erimitis, where sheer white cliffs drop into the sea and the sunset is the finest on Paxos; head east to the pebble coves below; or drive to the harbours of Gaios, Lakka or Loggos for dinner by the water.

About Magazia

Magazia is one of the oldest settlements on Paxos, an inland village in the green centre of the island. Stone houses and olive groves line the old road, with a bakery, a small market, a traditional kafeneio and a few tavernas.

In the middle of the island, on the road between Gaios and Lakka. Loggos lies below it on the east coast and the Erimitis cliffs on the west coast.

No, Magazia is inland. The nearest swimming is at the pebble coves of the east coast, such as Kipiadi, or at Erimitis on the west coast, all a short drive away.

We recommend a car or a scooter. Distances on Paxos are short, so the harbours of Gaios, Lakka and Loggos and the beaches are all easy to reach from the village.

Watch the sunset from the Erimitis cliffs, walk the old paths through the olive groves, stop at the village kafeneio, and head to the harbours for dinner by the water.

Magazia includes the surrounding settlements of Platanos, Fountana, Anemogiannatika, Arvanitakeika, Kagkatika, Zernatika, Grammatikeika, Manesatika, Romanatika, Kourteika and Mpoikatika. Searching for Magazia shows the homes in all of them.
